Essex League Barkingside are in mourning after one of the club’s future prospects lost his battle with Leukaemia.

Popular 17-year-old Andrew Baffour passed away on Wednesday, the club announced on their website this morning.

An online fund has been set up to help the player’s family pay for the cost of his funeral.

The club will pay tribute to him in an upcoming match on Monday night.

Barkingside said: “Andrew battled back and forth with leukemia for a year. He passed away on Wednesday 24th March. Our sympathies and thoughts are with his family and friends.

“A minutes silence and collection will be held in honour of Andrew at our next home against Sporting Bengal United on Monday night at Cricklefields. Kick-Off for that match is at 7:45pm.

A Go Fund Me page has been created to raise funds for his funeral.

“Any donations will be appreciated and once again, our condolences go out to his family and friends. Andrew will be missed, but never forgotten.”
