Evo-Stik League Premier club Ashton United have announced that they have re-signed defender Cavell Coo for the upcoming 2017/18 season.

On his second spell at the club, the full-back has been very impressive and been on the receiving end of a lot of praise from fans.

His consistency and high-quality performances were rewarded as he won the Robins’ Directors player of the year in 2016.

Coo is comfortable in right-back or left-back and adds pace to the side when getting forward.

Coo has previously played for various clubs, including rivals Curzon Ashton, Salford City and FC United of Manchester.

Ashton also announced they have re-signed midfielder Richard Smith for the upcoming season.

Smith was one of the stars of the Robins’ side last season. He is extremely versatile as he can operate in midfield, full-back or centre-half if needed.

He was a big player for Ashton last season and could influence the outcome of a game single-handedly.

The midfielder was the captain of Radcliffe Borough, where he was a fans` favourite which led him to being crowned as their supporters’ player of the year at the end of the 2015/16 season.

The Robins realised his quality and made a move for the player and successfully secured his services in the summer of 2016.

Smith portrayed his class in his first season at Ashton and immediately became a favourite at Hurst Cross.
