O’Callaghan, 33, began his league career with Port Vale, before returning home to his native Ireland to play for home-town team Cork City.
His impressive displays in the eircom League led to him being snapped up by Ipswich Town in January 2007, but frustrated at the lack of opportunities at Portman Road, he made the move to Brighton in August 2007.
O’Callaghan signed for a second spell at Cork at the start of 2008, scoring twice on his competitive return against Dungannon Swifts.
The midfielder has also had spells with Tranmere Rovers, Dundalk and Yeovil Town before returning to his home city with Waterford in April 2010.
Then, after a trial with Brentford, he joined Cambridge United in March 2011 before becoming the first permanent export from this country to DPMM of Brunei, who play in the Singapore League, after he had spent a short spell there in 2002.
