FA Vase Blow for Peninsula League Clubs

.....season's FA Carlsberg Vase was rejected.

A number of Carlsberg South West Peninsula League clubs have been refused entry after failing to meet ground grading requirements. As well as Porthleven, Camelford, Dartmouth, Falmouth Town, Ivybridge Town, Launceston, Liskeard Athletic, Newton Abbot Spurs, Newquay, Penzance, Torpoint Athletic and Witheridge have all been refused entry.

However, Porthleven manager John Dent revealed the club could yet take their place in next season's Vase.

He explained: "There was a misunderstanding over one of the documents we submitted to the FA in our application.

"But we hope to clear that hope and hopefully we will be in the FA Vase next season."

The misunderstanding relates to the club's toilet facilities, which, Dent confirmed, do meet FA standards.

He added: "We just have to take a few pictures, send them off, and fingers crossed, we'll be accepted. I don't see any reason why we won't be."

Dent, meanwhile, admits he will have his work cut out this summer as he looks to strengthen his squad.

He has already suffered a major blow following the news that the club's player of the season Chris Lawrence is leaving due to work commitments.

Dent said: "It's a massive blow and Chris is gutted to be honest.

"But work comes first and unfortunately it's something he has to do.

"We wish him the best of luck, but if it doesn't work out he'll always be welcome back."

Lawrence, a landscape gardener, who has worked at Mullion Golf Club, is moving to Bath.

The Fishermen have been dealt a further blow after Dent revealed that Reg Pearson is returning to Perranporth.

With a limited budget, Dent admits building a squad capable of competing in Division One West is going to be a challenge.

He said: "There's not much money about, and that will mean we might have to look at some of our younger players in pre-season."
