....Premier Division club Highworth Town.

Within a day or so of Dave Webb quitting the hot-seat at the Elms to join Evo-Stik League Southern outfit Swindon Supermarine, three applicants had contacted Highworth to register their interest in taking over.

And it is believed that Fisher, who guided the first-team to the Hellenic Premier title in 2004/05, is one of those and is keen on a quick return to football after leaving Shrivenham last month.

Fisher cited his main reason for exiting the Rec as the lack of a playing budget, but greater sums are likely to be available at Highworth than at any other local Hellenic League club next season, making it an attractive proposition for Fisher, amongst others.

Applicants have until Monday to make contact with Highworth chairman Rohan Haines and interviews will be conducted shortly after.

Meanwhile, the Elms chairman has given his good wishes to the outgoing managerial team of Webb and assistant Lee Spalding, even if the pair’s move did come as a surprise to him personally. “It was a bit of a shock because I learnt the news from a third party so it could have been dealt with a bit better, but I wish Dave and Spud all the best going forward,” said Haines.

“I’m disappointed because I met Dave on Saturday to discuss next season and it all looked positive, but there’s no sour grapes from me.

“We’ve had a few enquiries about the job at Highworth and we need to recruit quickly to get ourselves ready for next season.”
