Fleetwood Reject Blackpool Bid for Vardy
Jamie Vardy

....Jamie Vardy from npower Championship neighbours Blackpool.

The Seasiders contacted Fleetwood within hours of last Saturday’s big FA Cup tie with an official offer for the sought-after striker.

It is understood that Pool bid in the region of £750,000 for Vardy, who turns 25 tomorrow.

Fleetwood want £1m, plus Vardy loaned back to them for the remainder of the season as they fight for promotion to the Football League.

Town chairman Andy Pilley said: “I did receive a text from Blackpool on Saturday night, which was a long way short of our valuation of the player.

“A lot of clubs have made contact and there have been lots and lots of interest in Jamie. Blackpool’s is not the first bid and is not the best we’ve had.

“The size of the fee is for the clubs to negotiate but we value Jamie very highly.

“Until we receive an offer which is attractive to us, Jamie will remain a Fleetwood player.”

Asked about the prospect of Vardy being immediately loaned back to Fleetwood as part of any deal, Pilley added: “That has been part of the negotiations and would be attractive to us.”

Vardy was Fleetwood’s standout player in their 5-1 Third Round defeat by Pool at Highbury.

It prompted Seasiders manager Ian Holloway to speak in glowing terms about the striker.

“He is definitely some player,” said Holloway. “Fleetwood certainly have someone up front who looks like he can play a lot higher.

“We know what it’s like when bigger clubs come and try to take a bite out of you – it is very difficult to stop it happening.”
