The striker was Steve Cuggy’s first signing as Spartans` manager, arriving from Harrogate Town in May 2011.

Armstrong moved to Blyth following a hugely successful season at then Blue Square Bet North rivals Harrogate.

The 27-year-old spent the formative years of his career in Scotland with Queen of the South and Annan Athletic before moving to Northern League side Dunston Federation Brewery and then onto Gateshead.

Armstrong enjoyed a prolific spell at the International Stadium and was only released as his career as a teacher prevented him from going full-time.

He moved to Harrogate at the start of the 2010/11 season and went onto score twenty-three goals - including twenty-two in the Conference North.

However, despite a strong pre-season and a promising start, Armstrong endured a difficult time at Croft Park, and in all he played forty-four games in a Spartans shirt and scored seven times.

Armstrong is joined at the Turnbull Ground by his former Blyth and Harrogate team-mate Michael Tait.

Starting his career at Darlington, Tait was unable to break into the first-team so decided to join Scottish Premiership club Gretna where he made four appearances.

When Gretna went into administration, the midfielder found a new home at Newcastle Blue Star before a short spell at Workington followed.

In 2009, he moved to Blyth where he won the Port of Blyth Season award for the 2009/10 season.

Tait joined Harrogate in June 2011 but the following October he went on loan back to Blyth for a month before being recalled.

In January 2012, it was announced that Tait had left Town and joined Northern League side Ashington.
