Funk Calls for Town`s Backing

...the local football community to get ready for the ride of a lifetime.

Funk’s new-look side kick off their pre-season against Saturday League outfit Eastfield at Yorkshire Coast College on Saturday.

Not only does Funk want Boro regulars to come down and take a glimpse at the numerous new players, but he is also calling for fans of the former Scarborough FC to pay a visit.

“We are ready, are you ready?” Funk said. “Being involved in sport does present you with a great opportunity. That opportunity is the ability to bring people together.

“Ever since I joined Scarborough Athletic I have understood one thing. That thing is the fact that the people of the town are crying out for a good football team.

“That is what I am here to deliver and I think this is the right time to do it.

“I want everyone to be a part of it as well. Be it the fans we had last season or the fans Scarborough had in the past. This is all about the people of the town.

“In the past things went wrong, and when things go wrong people feel hard done by.

“We are now trying to put that right, but we do need everyone to get behind us so we can live that dream.

He added: “I have spoken to a number of people in the game and the one thing they say about Scarborough is the passion the footballing community of the town has.

“I have seen that passion in the last few games of last season.

“We must move on together as a club and as a football community.

“This isn’t about individuals or ego trips - this is about Scarborough and football in the town.

“I would like to talk to anyone that is unsure of what we are trying to do because we need everyone behind it.

“We are on the edge as a club at the moment, we need the support now.

“The dream is to get back in to Scarborough and to get up the non-League Pyramid where the club does belong. It is vital that we don’t let this dream die.”
