Going North Would be Disaster for Bourne

The Football Association’s National Leagues Committee met on Tuesday to discuss the make-up of next season’s constitution, amid reports that `Bourne and Maidstone United could be switched from the South to join Chatham Town and Thamesmead Town.

Spice said: "It would be disastrous; we would fight it very strongly. We couldn’t afford it, it is a ridiculous situation and not viable.

"It will leave us with a lot of travelling to do to clubs who won’t bring any supporters with them.

"Chatham have found it difficult in the North and I don’t think their overheads are as heavy as ours.

"We just have to wait to see what happens before we do anything."

One thing in `Bourne’s favour is that the fact that in the past the Leagues Committee have used the proximity to Dartford Tunnel as a yardstick for switching clubs.

Thamesmead are closest, followed by Chatham and play-off finalists Dulwich Hamlet and then Maidstone with Bourne Park thirty miles away.
