Grainger Refuses to Name Season Targets
Mark Grainger

....Combination Premier Division season kicks off on Saturday.

But he insists, regardless of results, he wants his players to be the league's entertainers and put a smile on the faces of Atherstone fans.

More than 400 fans are expected to watch the Adders kick-off their campaign against Bromsgrove Sporting at Sheepy Road this weekend.

Grainger said: "It's a great first test for us and will give us an idea of what life is like in the division.

"Personally, I think it's going to be a tough league because I don't think there's much if a difference between this and the Midland Alliance.

"Bromsgrove are one of the sides who are likely to challenge and you have to expect teams likes Bolehall Swifts, Stafford Town and Southam United to do well.

"From our point of view, I'm really looking forward to it.

"I feel, as a club, we learnt a lot last season and we have taken things on board and prepared well during this pre-season.

"But I'm not going to make bold statements about how we will do.

"We have our targets in mind. We know what we hope to achieve out of the season but our targets will stay within the dressing room.

"What I will say is that I want us to play good, passing football and keep the ball on the deck, rather than play long ball.

"I want the players to go out and enjoy their football and I want them to produce the kind of football that will make the supporters smile.

"I also expect us to work hard. That will be vital.

"Any player who thinks that, because we have dropped down another division, it's going to be easy is in for a real culture shock.

"As I have said, there are some strong sides in the division and, like last year, I also think clubs will see us as a bit of a scalp. That's a pressure that we have to learn to deal with but I think we have a set of lads that can handle the pressure."
