Hammatt Quits Eccleshall
Kieron Hammatt

The 33-year-old guided the Eagles to seventh place last season, having taken over the reins from Peter Hall. But increasing work commitments forced him to quit Pershall Park after one season in charge.

However, he won't be out of the game completely, having accepted an invitation to join Baker Joiner Midland Alliance side Rocester as assistant to Dave Langston.

Hammatt said leaving Eccleshall was a tough decision.

"I have just started a new job within the company I work for and it involves a lot of travelling," he said.

"Last season I spent a great deal of my time on the phone speaking to players, organising training and planning for matches, but I won't have that time.

"Eccleshall is a great little club, the people there work hard and do things the right way."

Hammatt said his decision to quit now was to give the new manager time to prepare for next season.

"I could have carried on a little longer to see if there was any way I could fit my new job around managing a football team, but I don't think it would been fair on the club if I had done that and then realised a month into the season it wasn't working," he added.

"By going now, it will give the new manager time to assess the situation and have plenty of time to bring in his own management team and players.

"I accepted the job at Rocester because it won't take up nearly as much of my time. I will help out when I can."

Hammatt, who works in account management for a nationwide tool hire company, said he left Eccleshall on good terms.

"There has been no fall-out with the club and I wish them all the best for the future.

Eccleshall chairman Andy Mapperson said he was disappointed to have lost Hammatt after such a successful season.

He said: Kieron did a great job with a young squad.

"Now we want someone to come in and carry on the good work.

"We have a good little set-up at Pershall Park and most of the players have indicated they want to play for us next season."

Mapperson is inviting applications for the post of manager. He can be contacted on 07831 550094.

Written applications should be sent to him at 245 Trysull Road, Wolverhampton, WV3 7LG
