Handful of Players to Be Shown the Door

.....handful of players will be shown the exit door this summer as he reflects on another seemingly failed title bid.

The Linnets look destined to finish runners-up for the second season running after dropping four points in their last two games.

However, it was the nature of last Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Desborough Town that infuriated Setchell most and has left him in no doubt that some of his squad’s days at The Walks are numbered.

The Lynn boss said: “You have highs and lows in football. Last week at Long Buckby was a real low but you’ve got to be able to pick yourself up and go again. All of the good sides do it but at the final furlong we’ve been found wanting.

“You keep hoping that they’d pull something out of the bag and when it doesn’t happen you’ve got passengers. There will definitely be ins and outs.

“There’s players in the dressing room who were playing for their futures already before the weekend. King’s Lynn’s a good football club and there will be players queuing up to come here and one or two, or maybe more, who are here are going to be disappointed this summer.”

A year after contriving to throw the UCL title away, following a victory at eventual champions St Neots Town, the Linnets look to have fallen at the final hurdle again.

Glen Botterill’s Buckby - who beat Lynn 2-1 less than a fortnight ago to keep their title hopes alive - moved to within one point of Setchell’s men at the weekend and then overtook Lynn by winning their game in hand against Cogenhoe United in midweek.

Setchell said: “I’m a Lynn supporter – as well as Lynn manager – and I can’t be any more disappointed about it all.

“I thought Rob Hughes is the only one who could have come out of the game last Saturday with any sort of credit. He went onto the pitch at half-time and did exactly what was required.

“He tried to keep the ball moving and get on the ball. I know some people either love him or hate him but what the lad does is get hold of the ball when the team’s struggling.

“It’s a pity I didn’t have six or seven more of Hughesy in the second half because I had players hiding up as they were too scared to make a mistake. They’re not the type of footballers I want at this football club.”
