A creative midfielder, Dawson signed a professional deal with the Grecians in May 2010 and was a regular at the heart of the totesport.com reserve combination league reserve team for the 2010/11 season.

He is a hard-working player with an eye for goal who can also play at right-back, he made his full debut at Huddersfield Town in February 2012, having gained experience with Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West side Tiverton Town earlier that season, where he played thirteen games and scored four times.
