Friday night saw a vital game in the battle to avoid relegation from the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division.
It was at Beaconsfield SYCOB`s Holloways Park where tenants Hayes & Yeading United hosted fellow strugglers St Neots Town.
The Saints came into the game bouyed by a good win at King`s Lynn Town on Tuesday night, while United hadn`t won in their last four matches and had been hammered 6-0 at `home` by Biggleswade Town last weekend.
However, the form book counted for nothing as Hayes & Yeading, looking to avoid a second successive relegation, earned three crucial points with a 2-0 victory.
The home side took a 35th minute lead when Saints` keeper Alex Archer`s poor punch out was seized upon by Connor Toomey, who scored with a sublime finish.
And right on half-time, the hosts gained a vital second after another defensive error let in Tom Broadbent.
The second half saw the visitors produce little – indeed they failed to have a shot on target for the entire 90-plus minutes.
The win lifts Hayes & Yeading to fourth-bottom, two points behind the safety-mark, while the Saints have a six-point cushion over United, but have only five games remaining.
