.....month leave of absence, due to hip replacement surgery.
Lancaster chief executive Mick Hoyle and assistant-manager Barrie Stimpson will share the first-team duties until Hesketh is able to return to the City dug-out.
Hoyle said: “It made sense for me to take over as I’ve done it before and we want to keep the job open for Tony as, when and if he wants it.
“We want him back and hopefully things can fall back into place when he’s fit and ready.”
Meanwhile, former Dolly Blues' captain Michael Stringfellow returns to take on the role of player-coach at Giant Axe.
Stringfellow joins from West Lancs League neighbours Garstang FC and brings with him a wealth of both defensive experience and coaching abilities.
Stringfellow previously played for Lancaster City under Barrie Stimpson and also Tony Hesketh and was an integral part of the side that amassed ninety-six points and finished second, losing out on promotion to Colwyn Bay in the play-off final.
He moved to AFC Fylde the following summer, before taking up the role of player-manager at Garstang.
