Huntingdon`s Day Almost Spoiled

....veered from farcical to fantastic.

Town chief Ricky Marheineke was left fearing their final-day date with rock-bottom Rothwell Town wouldn’t go ahead after the reluctant visitors turned up with just nine players.

But after the arrival of another man and a delay to the kick-off, Huntingdon were finally given the all-clear to cap a cracking season in style.

Niks Salvanieks, Jake Waterworth and Ryan Spencer struck in a 3-0 success that ensured Town lifted the title.

Marheineke said: “It was in danger of becoming a farce due to Rothwell’s attitude before the game, but we got out there in the end and did the job we needed to do.

“It was so one-sided it was unreal. I don’t think they had a shot all game but I’m just really relieved and very pleased to pick up the three points and get hold of the title.

“Winning promotion was our aim from day one but to go up as champions is a bonus.

“The people behind the scenes, who have made all this possible, deserve a real pat on the back. Myself and the players have just put the icing on the cake.”
