Impressive Double Swoop by AFC Fylde
Adam Carden

....Hughes from new npower League Two neighbours Fleetwood Town’s and Adam Carden from Blue Square Bet Premier side Southport.

The versatile duo, Hughes who is only 20, and Carden 26, can operate in both defence and midfield and joined their new team-mates for pre-season training this weekend at KEQMS their Lytham training base.

AFC Fylde manager Dave Challinor is delighted to land the pair who both come with excellent experience having played Conference football last season. “I'm delighted to welcome both Matty Hughes and Adam Carden to the club,” he said. “They are both fantastic acquisitions that strengthen us even further.

“Matty is someone that Colin and myself know well as we had him with us at Colwyn Bay on loan from Fleetwood. He’s got a full season in the Conference North under his belt and comes to us from full-time football.

“We're delighted he has chosen to come and work with us again, as he feels we can work with him and help get him back into full-time professional football.

“As a youngster he started at Rochdale before spending three years at Glasgow Celtic as captain of their youth and reserve teams, so he comes with a great footballing upbringing. He recognises we are ambitious and determined to move forward and can’t wait to be a part of that.

“Adam Carden was a bit of a chance signing really in the sense that he spent last season at Southport in the Conference Premier, making thirty appearances for them. He was all set to stay but a change in his working situation meant he wasn't able to commit to daytime training.

“It's common knowledge I've been looking for a full back since losing Jimmy Heywood due to work commitments and Adam gives us not only this but options higher up the pitch or in midfield. He's an attack minded player and fits in perfectly with how we want to play. I'm delighted he recognised what we are trying to do here and wants to be part of that.”

Challinor urged Coasters` fans to welcome them both to the club and is excited about the way his squad is taking shape. “I'm sure the fans will make them both feel really welcome. Our squad is really taking shape now, there may potentially be one more addition but we'll see how things progress. There is plenty of competition and quality in the squad and like myself they can’t wait to get started.”
