.....Bet Premier this season as Luton Town took a 2-0 lead into the second leg of their Promotion Play-Off semi-final against Wrexham on Thursday night.
The Hatters finished a full seventeen-points adrift of the Dragons in the regular campaign but have been rejuvenated since the appointment of Paul Buckle as manager at the beginning of April, and produced a fine performance in front of their own fans and the live Premier Sports TV cameras.
Their strikers Andre Gray and Stuart Fleetwood led the visitors` defence a merry dance all night and Luton were well worth their two-goal advantage going into Bank Holiday Monday`s all-important second leg at the Racecourse Ground.
Indeed, the only complaint Buckle may have is that his side didn`t all-but guarantee their place in the final at Wembley on May 20th as they had numerous opportunities to add to their tally.
Luton took the lead with a goal worthy of the occasion after 23 minutes. Keith Keane’s fine ball held up just enough on the wet surface for Fleetwood to keep it in play. He then skirted the byline before pulling the ball back for strike partner Gray to hammer home from close range for his sixth goal in the last ten games.
The home side doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark with another excellent effort, this time from Fleetwood himself when Gray’s cute back-heel allowed his partner to score in off the post.
After that Luton had chances to put the overall tie to bed, with Robbie Willmott, Keith Keane and both Gray and Fleetwood all having good opportunities later on.
If the second leg is anywhere near as exciting as this one, another expected massive crowd in North Wales are in for a real treat!
