...Deeping Rangers, has launched his summer recruitment drive with a triple-signing.

Korkmaz has snapped up experienced Peterborough Northern Star goalkeeper Nicky Conroy, classy midfielder Adam Weston, who returns to Rangers for a second spell, and veteran former Stamford striker Tony Battersby, who arrives as player-coach.

Both Weston and Battersby have previous experience of playing under Korkmaz and all three captures are players that the Rangers boss is convinced can help him lead the club back into the upper reaches of the UCL Premier Division after a fourteenth place finish last season.

Korkmaz, who returned last November to replace Pat Rayment in the hot-seat, moved fast in the market after seeing keeper Lee Crockett move on to Blackstones and striker Liam Harrold join Spalding United.

Korkmaz said: “Everything is going pretty much to plan as far as our recruitment is concerned.

“Our aim was to keep hold of the players that did well for me last season and we have managed that accept for the two lads who moved on.

“But I’m delighted with the signings we’ve made. Nicky has proved himself to be one of, if not the best goalkeeper around here at this level while Tony did a terrific job for me at Stamford.

“Some people will accuse Tony of not scoring enough goals, but I feel sure he will get his fair share at this level.

“He is not a striker whose game is solely about scoring though. His hold-up play is second to none and his presence will be a real benefit to the younger players at the club on and off the pitch.

“Tony has come in as player-coach but that doesn’t mean his playing days are coming to an end. He might be 35, but he is fully focused on playing for a good few years yet.

“And it is great to have Adam back with us. He is a player I know well and someone who has done a cracking job for me in the past.

“We need to make sure we improve on last season and these players can certainly help us make that happen.”

Weston had to abort plans to return to Deeping last season after just one 45-minute appearance due to illness, but he has a clean bill of health now to resume a career that has also taken in Stamford, Wisbech and Soham.

Battersby has enjoyed a nomadic career in both professional and non-League football. Deeping will be the twenty-third club on his CV.

Conroy has also played higher up the non-League ladder at Boston United, Kettering Town and Wisbech Town.

He was a key figure for Northern Star last season as they claimed a top-six finish in their debut Premier Division campaign and also lifted the UCL League Cup.
