Law Facing Busy Few Days
Nicky Law

....the August 31st transfer deadline looming.

Law watched his side flatter to deceive in a 3-0 home defeat against Hereford United last Saturday. The Reds were every bit as good as the former Football League side in the first half and could have had two or three goals. However, they capitulated in a poor second half showing which saw three goals in 14 minutes conceded.

The defeat followed on from a 3-3 home draw against Southport, a game in which they led three times but Law was far more irked by events against Hereford.

“"For an hour of the game it is even-stevens. All of a sudden we concede a goal and you can see the breath drain out of us,” reflected Law.

"That's when you need some men and unfortunately we have not got enough.”

The reverse leaves Alfreton looking for a first win of the new season with three games gone as they prepare to make the long trip to Barrow AFC on Saturday and then host newcomers Nuneaton Town on Bank Holiday Monday at the Impact Arena.

With striker Tom Denton being handed a three-game suspension following his sending-off against Hereford last Saturday, and the vastly-experienced Iyseden Christie being released from his non-contract registration after just one league game, manager Law finds himself back down to four strikers, one of whom, Anthony Wilson has had hardly any pitch minutes throughout pre-season.

Law admitted he needs to strengthen ahead of the transfer window. "With regards to Iyseden, things didn't work out for different reasons and we need a few changes. To make those changes players will have to be loaned out or sacrificed as he was, unfortunately, it's the only way to bring what we need in.

"If it can be done, obviously there is a problem where I have to get players out and that is not easy. We have had a few players available now for three or four weeks but unfortunately there have not been any takers.

"Hopefully, there are players that we would consider going to watch this week. It may be a case of going out and getting a few younger players in that can deal with it.

"We might as well get beat with younger lads that go out there and have a go.

"It's now two home games and six goals conceded. You are not going to win any game at any level conceding three goals a game."

Denton misses the two Bank Holiday weekend games and the trip to Dartford a week on Saturday, and they are three games against sides in and around the Reds in the bottom six in the division, none of whom have won yet.
