Leabon Wants to Enjoy his Football Again
Kieran Leabon

....enjoy his football again after sealing a move across Suffolk to join the Marketmen from Bury Town.

The striker, who can also operate in midfield, becomes Danny Laws’ third summer signing, joining Nathan Clarke from AFC Sudbury and fellow former Blue Craig Nurse.

The 23-year-old found his game time diminished last season, but still made thirty-two starts and thirteen substitute appearances, scoring ten times in the process and setting up nine goals, the Ram Meadow outfit’s third highest creator.

Leabon admitted the chance to play regularly was a big factor in him signing for Needham and despite becoming the target of some boo boys in the final weeks of the season, feels he has nothing to prove.

“I think people may believe I have a point to prove, but I don’t see that as being the case,” he said.

“I just want to play football again and be happy - which is something I haven’t been in the last six months.

“I want to enjoy it to the fullest and just let my performances speak for themselves.

“It can be frustrating when you are doing you all for the team but sometimes people don’t see that, it is all down to opinion.

“Everyone could see I wasn’t playing as much as I would have wanted last season.

“It was slightly mind-boggling for me, my statistics were good but sometimes you can find yourself out of favour.

“I never really wanted to leave Bury but sometimes it is just time to move on, I wish everyone at the club all the best and I hope they continue to do well.

“For me now it is all about Needham and I just want to enjoy my football again.”

Leabon was part of the Bury side who won promotion from the Southern Midlands Division in the 2009/10 campaign, scoring a hat-trick on the last day of the season against Marlow to seal promotion.

Now finding himself back at the same level, albeit in Ryman Division One North, Leabon is determined to repeat that success and is confident his new club are more than capable of doing so.

“I’m now hoping to do well here and be involved in promotion to the Premier Division,” he added.

“Every player wants to play at the highest possible level and I am no different.

“Needham are a strong club with ambitions of promotion which was another incentive for me to come here because I believe they are on the brink of achieving that.”

“I just can’t wait to get started now.”
