Leek Admit Robins Were Worthy Winners
Lee Casswell

Following Leek Town's defeat in the Evo-Stik Northern Premire League First Division South play-off final at Ilkeston FC, Blues boss Lee Casswell gave his verdict on the game and the season as a whole.

Casswell said: “Obviously I’m disappointed with the result but if I’d been offered a play-off final back in August I would have taken it.

“However, Ilkeston were worthy winners in the end they put us under a lot of pressure and we held them well until they scored midway through the second half.

“When we went two down it was a game too far – the lads were very tired.

“We’ll now take a couple of weeks off before chatting to the chairman about next season. In the meantime I have had a word with most of the players and at this stage no-one has suggested that they are going to leave the club.

“Finally I’d just like to thank our magnificent fans who have been such a big part of the club this season – we hope to see them all again next season.”

Meanwhile, Leek chairman Andrew Wain took time out to extend his thanks to the fans who have supported the club throughout a magnificent season.

He was particularly pleased with the travelling fans at Ilkeston who did the club proud, despite the defeat.

“I would just like to say I was extremely proud of our supporters not only at Ilkeston when they were subject to a lot of goading from their fans at full-time but also for their support throughout the season.

“Our fans were magnificent and they should be very proud of the way they have conducted themselves.”

Wain also commended the management team and players for their magnificent contribution to the cause, including the FA Cup run, the league campaign and reaching the play-offs, making it the most successful season in recent years.

The Blues’ board of directors are now working hard on attracting more finance into the club ready for next season after securing main club sponsorship with Adams Foods who are on board for a record breaking fifteen years.

“I want to reassure fans that we will be building on what we have archived this season. When you put things into perspective what we have achieved since last August including a great run in the FA Cup, a good run in the league and a play-off final it’s been nothing short of phenomenal.

“Those achievements are thanks to the players, back room staff, volunteers who do a hell of a lot and all the people who have supported us in any way over the last nine months.

“Well done to you all and please, please continue your support next season – roll on August!”
