Liskeard Looking for New Manager

....the decision to appoint Martin Burgess didn't work out.

Burgess and his assistant, Kevin Harley, resigned soon after last Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Witheridge which left the Blues in the bottom three.

And club secretary Brian Olver said: "We will now be looking for somebody with premier division experience, somebody who has been there and done it at this level."

Olver said the decision of Burgess to stand down had not come as a big surprise to the club.

He said: "Martin had never managed at this level before and he was finding it difficult to make an impact.

"He was a very keen and enthusiastic person but his managerial experience was at East Cornwall or Peninsula division one level.

"And, as he found out, there is a big difference between that and the Peninsula premier division."

Burgess and Harley joined Liskeard during the summer and were faced with a complete rebuild of the first-team squad after most of last season's players left Lux Park following the departure of managerial duo Darren Edwards and Karl Curtis to Torpoint Athletic.

There was little time for the new men to assemble a squad before the start of the 2012/13 campaign, and Burgess understandably targeted players he knew, many of whom had not played at premier level.

Before Wednesday's 4-0 defeat against Bodmin Town, the Blues had lost twelve of their eighteen league matches at the halfway stage of their season, with only two wins.

The side have been playing reasonably well in patches but their general inexperience has counted against them.

Poor results have brought the threat of relegation but the club have rubbished rumours that they are considering quitting the league.

Anybody interested in the managerial vacancy should contact chairman Roger Williams on 01579 321310 or 07790 424 408 or secretary Brian Olver on 01579 342869 or 07974 636964.
