...former striker Michael Mackay from Hartlepool United.
Mackay was snapped up by Pools four seasons ago after being a prolific scorer for Consett, but he was released last month after completing his second contract at Victoria Park.
Consett manager Kenny Lindoe, who was now back to the best of health after his heart scare earlier this year, said: “His goal scoring record last time was phenomenal, and it would be great if we can get him back to his best again. He’s looked sharp in friendlies, and scored a couple of goals.
“But he knows that he’s got to produce, because we’ve got plenty of competition for places.” 28 year old Mackay scored forty-three goals in season 2006/07 before Hartlepool signed him on an eighteen-month deal in February 2007.
He made forty-nine appearances for Hartlepool, scoring seven goals, but hardly figured last season, and had a loan spell at Gateshead. Lindoe is also hoping to complete the signing of midfielder Josh Gray, who has been released by Darlington. “He’s shown flashes of brilliance, and he’s got an extra gear. There’s certainly more to come from him.”
Meanwhile, Lindoe says that he is unlikely to replace assistant-manager Dave Hagan, who has moved to manage Second Division Ryton & Crawcrook.
