Boss Terry Brown has informed the striker, who has been shipped out on a month's loan to Blue Square Bet South side Dartford, that he will not be offered a new deal at Kingsmeadow when his contract expires in the summer.
Main has bagged sixty-four goals in less than 100 starts since joining the Dons for a then club record fee from Tonbridge Angels in 2007.
However, he has been restricted to just seven starts this time around as the 29-year-old has struggled to adopt to life in their new three-pronged attack. Main revealed: "I know my time's up as Terry's told me I won't be kept on next season.
"It hurt and was a big blow. I sort of expected it because I haven't been playing
"I tried playing in the three up front but I'm more suited to a two."
Main has given the green light for his loan at Dartford to be extended for another month after three-straight wins has helped them climb the table.
And he hopes his spell at the Princes Park stadium can put him in the shop window.
"I've been really enjoying it," he added.
"I'll probably stay for another month as it's great to be playing games again. I think I had something like half an hour of action in two months.
"I love Wimbledon and it will be really sad to leave. The gaffer gave me the option to stay and fight for my place, but it was killing me not playing."
