...Zamaretto League Division One South & West club Tiverton Town.

The Ladysmead club were relegated from the Zamaretto Premier Division last season and wanted Massey to spearhead their return to the Step 3 league.

But Massey decided against the move and has instead returned to Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division side Bovey Tracey, where he finished the last campaign.

"The situation at Tiverton arose after a conversation with former manager Martyn Rogers, which led to the club approaching me with a view to a place on the board as director of football," said Massey.

"After a period of consideration I felt that the timing was not right and that I would be more comfortable and relaxed with the proposition being offered at Bovey Tracey.

"Bovey have offered me the chance to start with a blank canvas and to build the club, both on and off the pitch.

"That is what really excited me as I am starting from scratch. At Tiverton the structure was already in place.

"At Mill Marsh Park I have the chance to work alongside the committee to build a strong foundation and structure over the next few years."

When asked if this was to be a lengthy stay at Mill Marsh Park, Massey replied: "I intend this appointment to be long term and I am quite willing to plant my roots at Bovey Tracey.

"I'm also taking over the commercial side and will be looking to raise funds for all aspects of the club. My aim is to make them the force in the Peninsula and it is something that I am really looking forward to now.

"I cannot wait for the new season to start."

Ex-Bovey boss Cyril Gosling, who recommended Massey to Bovey, was delighted with the appointment.

"Bovey has been part of my life for a long time and I think this is a great move by them and one that will hopefully bring success," said Gosling.

"I had six great years at Bovey, but they need to move on now and Steve Massey is a man who has been there and done it in the past. I believe he can take them to the next level."
