The 23-year-old is a free agent having cancelled his contract at Stockport by mutual consent on the eve of this season.
McConville can play wide or up front and Barrow boss Dave Bayliss tried to sign him on a long loan from Stockport in the summer.
McConville began his career with Skelmersdale United before signing for League Two outfit Accrington Stanley in February 2009, having previously been on trial with Stockport.
He made seventy-six appearances for Stanley over two seasons, scoring fourteen times.
In July 2011, he signed for Stockport, but in March 2012, McConville joined npower League One Rochdale on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.
