New club Ilkeston Town have been added to the Midland League Division One for 2017/18.

The FA informed the Midland League last Friday that Ilkeston Town FC had been placed at Step 6 and have been placed in Midland League Division One, bringing that particular division up to twenty-two clubs.

Ilkeston Town are a phoenix club replacing the now defunct Ilkeston FC, who were relegated from the Evo-Stik League Premier in 2016/17 and subsequently liquidated in June over a £14,438 debt.

There were initially two interested parties keen on starting a new club at the New Manor Ground, and while the identities of those involved are yet to be officially revealed, a new company called Ilkeston Town FC Limited was incorporated on June 30th which lists Notts County chairman Alan Hardy as its sole director.

Hardy had been linked with taking over Ilkeston FC last month after publicly declaring his interest, although with the old club now having ceased trading it seems he has opted for a new guise entirely.
