Midweek Uhlsport Hellenic League Review
Graham Lewis

....with a 5-1 mauling of Highworth Town in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.

Ryan Curtin was Highworth’s main tormentor scoring a hat-trick with substitute Jim Deabill weighing in with two late goals. Chris Flanagan scored a late consolation goal for Highworth.

Reading Town finally claimed their first point of the season with a Graham Lewis last-minute goal salvaging a point in a 2-2 draw with Thame United.

Tranell Richardson had opened the scoring for Reading with Alex Stewart and Adam Rhodes putting Thame in front before Lewis’ late intervention.

A feisty game in which both sides ended the match with ten men on the field saw Newbury narrowly defeat Binfield 1-0 with a Ben McCready goal.

It was a case of `After the Lord Mayor’s Show` with Wantage Town who slipped to a 1-2 home defeat to Holyport following their exploits last weekend.

Brad Chalmers had given Wantage a first half lead but second half goals from Dan Rapley and Matt Rolfe saw Holyport claim all three points.

Wokingham & Embrook and Ascot United fought out a 1-1 draw with Matt Jones scoring for Wokingham and Jack Smillie scoring for Ascot.

In a highly entertaining game at Petersfield Park, Cheltenham Saracens and Witney Town served up an eight-goal thriller with Witney running out 5-3 winners.

Cheltenham Saracens score all their goals in the first half through Ethan Moore, Lorcan Sheehan and Josh Swales with Ben Moses and Mark Janes scoring for Witney.

The second half belonged entirely to Witney with James Dobson scoring twice and Conor McDonagh adding a late goal. Lydney Town made the long journey from Gloucestershire to take on Abingdon Town in the first round of the A M Print & Copy Floodlight Cup.

Abingdon have made a wretched start to the season and the[r fortunes didn’t improve with Division One West Lydney beating their Premier Division opponents 3-1with two goals from Matt Timmins and a goal from Shaun Stanley. Tom Larman scored for Abingdon.
