Moors` Trophy Quadruple Hopes Dashed

....champions Team Northumbria in the semi-final of the Brooks Mileson Northern League Cup on penalties on Saturday.

Moors took an early lead through Steve Foster from a Leon Ryan assist, but TN, playing their fourth game in eight days, equalised when Dean Critchlow burst away and fired past Craig Turns.

Moors hit the post twice before TN took the lead when the Second Division’s top scorer, Peter Watling, scored with a left foot shot.

It was all Spennymoor after half-time, with TN keeper Andrew Jennison in outstanding form until he was beaten after 79 minutes when a corner by Sonny Andrews went straight into the net.

In extra-time, Watling put TN 3-2 up, before Andrews scored from another corner and set up a penalty shoot-out.

TN won the shootout 4-2, to give them home advantage against West Auckland in the final, on a date to be confirmed.

Moors manager Jason Ainsley said: “If it was a boxing match it would have been stopped, because we created enough chances to win four games. Their keeper pulled off some tremendous saves, although you have to give credit to TN as they dug in and took their penalties well. We wish them all the best in the final. If you asked me before the season started that we would win three trophies I would have snapped your hand off.”
