Murphy Makes Northern Star Switch
Sam Murphy

....Star this week to try and find regular first-team football this coming season.

The 19-year-old midfielder – a member of the England Futsal squad - struggled to win a regular starting place in the Wisbech Town side last season making just twenty-three Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division appearances, but ten of those came from the substitute’s bench.

Local lad Murphy has been at Wisbech for almost five years and came through the under-18 team into the first-team and was asked by manager Steve Appleby to commit for next season but has decided on a new challenge.

He also had approaches from March Town United and Ely City, but Murphy said: “I am 19 and just want to regular first-team football. I had a couple of games on loan at Yaxley last season when Gary Clipston was manager there and he is now helping Jamie Weston at the Peterborough club and contacted me.

“All I ever wanted to do was play for Wisbech and I am sorry to leave but I will definitely go back one day and play again.”
