The 19-year-old, who enjoyed successful loan spells away from Kenilworth Road with Cambridge City, Thurrock and Eastbourne Borough last season, is now contracted with the Town until the summer of 2014.
Such was new boss Paul Buckle's faith in the youngster, he cut short Lacey's loan spell at Eastbourne in April to be more involved in the first-team as the season reached its climax.
Lacey made his Town debut in the goalless draw with Welling United in the FA Trophy in December 2010 and picked up his first league appearance in the 1-1 draw against Wrexham at Kenilworth Road in April 2011.
In total he has appeared seven times in Hatters colours, three times this season in three FA Trophy ties, and four last term.
Buckle said: "Alex has got talent in abundance and it's with great pleasure that we have been able to agree a contract to keep him with us for another two years.
"He has a real willingness and work ethic to improve his game and we're all looking forward to seeing his development continue.
"He has all the attributes to be an excellent defender."
Lacey: "I'm delighted. To be felt so wanted by everyone here, especially the manager is fantastic.
"I've learned a lot in my time out on loan and I'm excited at the prospect of making the step up and impressing the manager who has shown a lot of faith in me."
