Merthyr Town have announced the signing of goalkeeper Giles Cutland ready for their first season back in the Evo-Stik....

Cutland has been training with Merthyr over the last number of weeks and has featured in the pre-season friendlies to date.

Boss Garry Shephard said: "We have agreed to sign Giles for the coming season. He has impressed us with his agility for a big lad and the way he commands his area. His distribution is also good and we look forward to seeing him become our keeper this season."

Cutland is a young goalkeeper who joins from Gwent County League side Cwmbrân Town after being signed by them from Cwmbrân Celtic in December 2011 to provide competition for the number one jersey.

His father Terry was club physio at Cwmbrân Town in the early 1990s.

Sheppard added: "With the loss of Joe Perry to Newport County and the decision from Ashley Morris not to re-sign for the club, this is a good signing for us and we are also looking to bring in one more before the season starts."
