New Management Team for Holbrook

....resignation of Leigh Grant and Simon Van-de-Broucke.

The pair have stood down after a very successful two years together in charge of the Brookies’ first team.

Over the past two years they have reached a league cup final and finished in sixth place in the East Midlands Counties League twice in an ever-competitive Premier Division.

Undoubtedly though, the highlights were the exploits in the FA Vase, reaching the last sixteen and the last thirty-two respectively.

The season that Holbrook reached the last sixteen is without doubt the club’s greatest moment. They were eventually beaten away at Coalville Town from Step 5, in extra-time. The victors going on to play at Wembley in the final where they were narrowly beaten by Whitley Bay.

However, they felt they could take the club no further and the club regrettably accepted their resignation and wish them all the success in the world for the future.

The Holbrook committee have moved swiftly to promote from within the club again and Paul Romney has been promoted to first-team manager from the reserves.

Romney has also moved quickly to secure the services of current first-team goalkeeper coach Phill Alcock, with John Shepherd taking over the reserves.

Romney is looking to fill the other management and coaching roles as quickly as possible.

Looking forward to the challenge, Romney said: “It is a very exciting but a daunting time for the club, but one I am also relishing.

“Following in the footstep of Mark Webster, Kev Bunting and Leigh Grant managing the club is a great privilege and I hope I can live up to their expectations.

“With the current financial climate the club have decided to invest in the facilities and the future of the club. Three new youth teams have been added to the club, with a u16, u18 and an under-19 side that will participate in the floodlit league.

“The youth is something we are all excited about, and hopefully in three to four years we will reap the benefits and start seeing local lads breaking into the first team.

“Phil, John and myself are all big believers in the youth and have bought into the bigger picture for the future, which is, building a club as well as a team and we are really looking forward to getting stuck into this project.

“I will actively be contacting players both current and new to build our first team and look forward to hitting the ground running at pre-season training in June.”
