.....as joint-managers following the departure of stalwart boss Ian Walker.
In typically conscientious style, Walker kindly let it be known to the committee a few weeks ago that he intended to step down at the end of the season, thus giving the club plenty of time to discuss the appointment of a successor.
Walker has a young family and believes that the exceptional level of commitment required to be Manager of Maine Road FC is not compatible with both this aim and his work requirements.
Chairman Ron Meredith, committee, players and all connected with the club will be unanimous in recognising Walker’s achievements and incredible loyalty to Maine Road.
Apart from his 635 appearances as a player, he has in his managerial role led the club into a sustained period of consistency in the league, and also won the NWCFL Challenge Cup in 2008 along with being runners-up in 2012.
The committee moved swiftly to appoint Walker’s successor. This will be in the form of a joint-management team of John Morrey and Chris Thomas.
Morrey is the current goalkeeping coach and is yet another former player who clocked up 421 appearances at the club.
Morrey and Thomas have already had experience of working together as a management team with Manchester League side Stockport Georgians.
The committee is confident that this appointment will bring further success whilst always maintaining the club’s principles and beliefs.
