Whitley Bay’s long unbeaten run, which included victories in three successive finals, came to an end last month. But another ‘Bay’, Herne Bay from the Kent Hurlimann League, are now just two matches away from a trip to Wembley.
The Bay had a player red-carded inside the first minute of Saturday’s Sixth Round tie at Uhlsport Hellenic League Shortwood United. But they edged their Gloucestershire opponents 2-1 with Byron Walker and Steve Hanson on target to earn a two-legged Semi-Final with West Auckland Town.
West Auckland from the STL Northern League, late winners in both the Fifth and Sixth Rounds, made a Wembley appearance in the old FA Amateur Cup back in the 1960s.
The first leg will be at Herne Bay on 24 March with the return a week later.
Dunston UTS, another Northern League side, won a seven-goal thriller at ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties Leaguers Peterborough Northern Star to make it through to the last four.
They will be at home in the first leg against Staveley MW from the Baris Northern Counties East League.
The winning Semi-Finalists pick up £5,000 and the Vase will have a new winner this season.
