Ebac Northern League First Division club North Shields have announced that Brian Smith has accepted the managers` position.

Smith said: “I’m delighted to be appointed as the new manager and really looking forward to the new season starting.”

Smith has been at the club now for a number of years, both as a player with sixty-three appearances, and as part of the North Shields management team.

He is a popular and respected figure at the club.

He will be assisted in the dug-out by Gary Ormston.

North Shields have also announced that Dean Holmes has a signed contract that will keep him at the club for the 2017/18 season.

Holmes’ first class commitment of 241 appearances and 86 goals has helped him establish himself as a hugely popular figure among committee, supporters and players alike.

The winger has played a massive part in the club’s triumphs over the last four seasons – from winning the Northern League Second Division title to lifting the Northumberland Senior Cup and the FA Vase.
