A winning goal in the 118th minute from Dave Symington broke Penrith AFC hearts in the final of the Cumberland Cup at Brunton Park against Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division side Workington AFC.
Martyn Coleman deservedly put the Ebac Northern League side ahead in the first half via a deflected free-kick.
Penrith should have been ahead prior but Ric Faustino looped the ball over from six yards.
Andy Murray-Jones had a golden chance after the break to double the lead but couldn’t connect to Kevin Connelly’s perfect cross.
Ben Jackson also headed against the bar before Scott Allison flicked a header past Jonny Jamieson to equalise in the 77th minute.
Coleman broke clear in extra-time and cut the ball back but no one could finish it off.
Workington broke clear and Symington shot superbly into the far corner 2 minutes from the end to lift the cup and send the travelling West Cumbrian supporters into ecstasy.
It was tough on the Bonny Blues, who created more chances but couldn’t quite find the finishing touch.
