Busy Chester FC have announced that defender Ryan Astles and striker James Akintunde have extended their stay with the Vanarama National League club for the 2017/18 season.

Still only 23 years old, Astles joined the club in January 2016 from Northwich Victoria and immediately forced his way into the Blues back four.

He has made a huge impact since his arrival – having appeared in all forty-six National League games last season, and he scored a memorable volley away at Tranmere Rovers to secure a point back in November – a strike voted second in the club`s goal of the season’ awards.

Akintunde, 21, showed glimpses of his true potential last season in a campaign that was cut short due to a long-term injury.

The pacey striker made seventeen appearances in all competitions last term – scoring an excellent winner at North Ferriby United in October and bagging in the 5-0 home rout against Dover Athletic in the same month.
