Evo-Stik League South club Carlton Town began their pre-season build-up with a 1-0 win against NPL Premier side Coalville Town.

The Millers won courtesy of a thumping Aaron Hooton header at Stoke Lane.

Carlton manager Wayne Scott was pleased with the high energy levels shown in midfield and a clean sheet.

Jordan Wilson who has just re-joined the club after a spell on loan from Evo-Stik League South Premier side Kettering Town last season, looked lively, and both he and Kyle Stovell gave Coalville plenty to think about in spells of first half pressure.

Another new signing who started the game for Carlton was defender Robbie McNicholas, who has joined the club from league rivals Basford United and he also slotted in nicely in his new surroundings.

The rest of Scott`s starting line-up was made up of players familiar to the Carlton faithful, but the club can confirm that Atton Wedderbourne has joined Midland League Premier Division new boys South Normanton Athletic and that William Mellors-Blair is expected to seal a move to a Vanarama National League club, while the club have already announced that Alex Troke has joined another Midland League outfit, Shepshed Dynamos.
