.....Community Drive on Saturday.
Two goals from Michael Morton and one from Lee Talbot saw United through to victory, and gave them yet more cause for celebration in what has been a success-packed season in both the league and cup competitions.
General manager John Cotton, who has experienced triumphs in the league when involved at Newcastle Town in past seasons, paid tribute to manager Scott Dundas, assistant Steve Chadwick and the squad.
“I’ve only been here a few months, but as soon as I came here I could see the quality of the squad we had and I told everyone that we’d get promotion and we have done. The heavy schedule of games that we have had had meant we have been victims of our own success a bit, but I would like to congratulate manager Scott Dundas and all the lads for what they have achieved.
“Now we can move on and look to build from here. The planned work on the ground starts next week, with new dressing rooms being installed and the floodlights being upgraded, and it’s a case of onwards and upwards.”
Assistant-manager Steve Chadwick said: “We are obviously pleased to have clinched promotion with three games to spare, and it was nice to finish off by scoring our 100th league goal of the season too.
“We set out at the start of the season with the aim of getting promotion out of this league, and of course we had some fantastic cup runs in four competitions but promotion is the icing on the cake. The lads have shown a great winning mentality and that along with our great home record this season has been a major part of our success.
“For now, we’ll just enjoy the moment, and once we complete the league fixtures, we’ll take a break and Scott and myself will get back together in June to start work planning for next season.”
