.....update on the latest at Broad Lane.
Osman said: “I decided that it would be for the best short-term to allow the continuity of the committee that I would stand as the chairman once again this season but 'officially' rather than acting this time.
“I would like to welcome aboard the two new vice-chairman in Leigh Knevett and Martin Brooks who will share the position and the work load and hopefully in the near future may step up as the new chairman of the club.
“The football may have stopped over the summer but it has been business as usual with lots of work behind the scenes by both old and new committee members of the club. I would like to welcome everyone on board again and look forward to working with them this season.
“We are looking forward to the new season with several new youth teams forming to continue the growth of the club which this season will boast sixteen teams. This is great news for the club as more and more new people are continuing to join Wivenhoe Town but also more importantly a youth structure that is educating our young Dragons to work towards playing for the first team for many years to come.
“The pitch has been re-seeded and we hope to be purchasing some brand new goals before the beginning of the season. We will shortly be revealing our new strip and also the new shirt sponsor.
“Last week we held trials at Colchester United’s Shrub End Training Ground and picked up a couple of useful players that will complement our squad well.
“We began pre-season training at Old Heath Recreation Ground last Thursday as we begin our preparation on the pitch for next season with many familiar faces taking part but some noticeable absentees.
“TJ Amass will be doing his pre-season with Heybridge Swifts and we wish him the best of luck and hope he can make a success of it. This is great advertisement for any player wishing to showcase their talents with Wivenhoe Town, to then hopefully push onto bigger and better things.
“I would also like to wish all the best to Tola Odedoyin who will be moving to University in Manchester. Both he and his brother Wale joined this club in the middle of some very hard times and stuck by us throughout. Both are very fiery characters but they have been a pleasure to work with and will definitely be missed by us even though not by any of our opponents.
“We have also lost the services of goalkeeper Richie Robins, who returned for his second spell at the club last season but has decided he will be joining Brightlingsea Regent. Richie is a great lad and we wish him all the very best at his new club.
“This brings me onto the squad for this season. Some of the players have represented the club over the past four seasons, and we once again have some names that will be returning after spells at other clubs. The good thing for me as a manager is that we do have a young squad but also one that has slowly gathered experience, the blend of the squad is the best we have had since my time at the club.
“There was an article in the local press recently mentioning that we will be working with a small budget. I just want to correct this and say that we did not work with a budget last season and nor do we have any plans to have a budget for this season, not because these players do not deserve it, but things have to be done correctly at the club and the most important thing always is to keep our gates open.
“We will make sure that we provide travel throughout the season and a training venue throughout the winter period as well as a new training kit for each player. If we look at the players that have already put pen-to-paper and have re-signed for the coming season I think it says a lot about this team and what they believe we can achieve by sticking together. I respect each and every one of these players for the attitude they have shown and they make my job easier and we believe that we can achieve something special together.
“Our aim this season is the same as always and that is to try and win every game but as previous, the target is forty points as soon as possible and then who knows how far we can go?”
