Palmer's loan spell with City came to an end after the 1-0 New Year's Day defeat to Weston-super-Mare and, with Truro under a transfer embargo imposed because of their financial situation, they were unable to retain him. However, because City are so short of players due to injuries, the Conference has given special permission for the club to bring back Palmer for a maximum of 28 days.

In their last three games City have had between one and three substitutes on their bench, putting immense pressure on the squad. Hodges said: "Ed is Torquay's player and I've got to speak to them, but he would like to come back, which is good news."

Truro entertain Chelmsford City at Treyew Road tomorrow. Stewart Yetton estimates he is four to six weeks away from a return, but fellow striker Barry Hayles could be back in action a lot sooner. Goalkeeper Tim Sandercombe is off crutches, although will still be out for some time.

Hodges revealed he had a couple of young players lined up from the region's Football League clubs, if City have the transfer embargo lifted.
