Parlour Would Be `Up For It`

.....Division club Wembley – if both Budweiser and his legs allow it.

The former Arsenal midfielder has seemingly embraced Budweiser's Wembley FC project most out of the six former internationals signed up for the club's FA Cup campaign.

He earned the respect of his fellow players by turning up for training two days before the game and mucking in with menial tasks like carrying the goalposts.

Speculation has been rife since the project was first revealed earlier this year whether any of the star names would be up for, or allowed to play league games for the club too. And while ex-USA striker Brian McBride has stated it is unlikely to wear at Wembley shirt again, Parlour admitted he is up for trips to the likes of Cove and Camberley.

He said: “Yeah, I'd be up for it. But to be honest, It's Budweiser's project, they dictate it, so it's their call really. There is also the fact that the cup game was the first time I have played in five years.

“I took a bit of a knock, so seeing if I am fit to play in the next round against Uxbridge is my focus at the moment.

“The main thing was getting the result against Langford though. It was a bit like the Lord Mayor's Show with all the cameras about, and we've have been a laughing stock if we'd have lost.”

For all the excitement their star-studded FA Cup campaign will bring, Parlour has warned Wembley's bread and butter players not to take their eye off the league.

With six ex-internationals helping coach them – even if not playing – the club will never be better placed to mount a title challenge in the Combined Counties Premier.

Parlour said: “I said to the guys they need to forget about the cup games for now as the league needs to be their main priority.

“The FA Cup is a bit of fun, but the league programme is their main objective. It's a tough league for them, and we will help in any way we can.”

Parlour also backed Wembley's two-goal hero from Saturday, Daryl Atkins, to take his cup exploits into the league and spearhead a promotion drive.

He added: “We knew before the game that, for all the big names out there, Daryl would be our secret weapon. He's a lovely little player.”
