Peters Continues Promotion Planning
Brent Peters

....make a promotion challenge next season by entering into contract talks with a number of his first-team squad.

Team captain Daniel Cocks has committed himself to the club until the end of 2014, and Peters has revealed he is in dialogue with another senior player who has indicated that he also is ready to pen a contract in order to be a part of the Bacup challenge going forward.

As Peters explained, he wants to prevent the situation he experienced at the start of this season, when a number of experienced performers in last season’s cup-winning squad left to try their luck higher up the non-League Pyramid.

“After winning the League Challenge Cup and the manner in which we did this, it goes without saying had we have managed to secure the services of our entire squad, then this season we would have hit the ground running”, said Peters.

“This would have been achieved by the group in its entirety being back early for pre season training, from which point all would have been conditioned to be in a position to do just that.

“Had we not lost six players out of our squad, then we would most certainly have been in a better position for promotion this time around than we currently are.”

Peters believes that now Daniel Cocks has agreed to sign a contract, he will able to persuade others to follow suit.

“I am delighted that Daniel has identified everything we are about at Bacup Borough and that he wants nothing more than to be a part of this going forward. By putting pen-to-paper he has now taken the lead, hopefully now some of the other quality players I have identified will follow.

“If Bacup Borough want to try to achieve promotion, then it is important we keep our more experienced talented footballers. The only way to do this is to place these guys on a contract.

“If they do as Daniel Cocks has done, then we are on our way to starting off with a solid base of players that are fully committed, share the same ambition and who want to have the kudos of knowing that should our aims and ambitions come off, then they will have the added accolade of knowing that they were part of Bacup Borough’s history of taking them to their highest ever position within the League structure.

“Over the next few weeks I am confident that another couple of players will be buying into the concept.”
