The 22-year-old, who played a dozen times at Bootham Crescent under ex-managers Colin Walker and Martin Foyle before being released in 2009, has joined the Pikes from league rivals Tadcaster Albion.

Shepherd, who has also had spells at Farsley Celtic, Harrogate Town and Bradford Park Avenue, is one of a rush of signings from boss Jimmy Reid.

Carl Stewart, a goalscoring sensation at Mill Lane at the back end of last season, has agreed new terms and the Pikes have also re-signed midfielder Joe Danby and recruited left-back Dean Craig, while they are hopeful Danny Farthing and Tom Reid will also put pen-to-paper on deals.
