The former Street boss will work alongside newly-appointed Kevin Milsom, who was confirmed as boss last week after a spell as caretaker-manager.
Club chairman Alan Hurford said: "We have been happy with the response of the team since Kevin picked up the reins.
"He has done a good job and stabilised things. "Kevin and Dave both understand the ethics of the club and where our ambitions are to move the club forward." Milsom played for Cirencester Town, Clevedon Town, Weston-super-Mare and Bridgwater before turning to management. He took over last month following the sacking of Rob Dray and steered the side to four league victories after the team had failed to win one of their opening nine matches of the New Year. He says he is already working to attract new players to the club and is looking to a "top half" finish next season.
