Port Have Grand Leader
Simon Grand

.....Grimsby Town in the big Blue Square Bet Premier kick-off. Previous `Port skipper Alan Moogan will be as competitive as ever in midfield having joined Liam Watson's backroom staff as player-coach. On Saturday Watson will decide who he hands starting debuts in a highly competitive new-look squad where firepower up front has been pepped up during the summer.

Watson is confident he has strengthened in the summer and has more depth than last season with competition in every Port position. In comes Steven Tames (Prescot Cables), Chris Almond (Macclesfield Town), Michael Bakare (Macclesfield Town) to add competition in the strikers department, while ex-Oldham Athletic teenage star Aaron Chalmers comes into the midfield shake up.

Defensively Chris Lynch (Stalybridge Celtic) and Louis Barnes (Marine) add strength to Port`s rearguard. Watson, who is confident he will have a full squad to select from, wants to make one more signing before Saturday`s kick-off with another striker his target. Centre back Earl Davis has not been able to be part of the pre-season build up having reported back with a serious Achilles injury sustained last season which has not responded to treatment.
