Pritchard Set to Cut Numbers at Albion

....many players, but will wait a little longer to discard the ones he has no room for.

Albion included four triallists – Sam Aspinwall, Cavell Coo, Rory Fallon and Jermaine Steele – in the squad for this week’s friendly draw with Blue Square Bet North club Stalybridge Celtic.

They may each get another chance to impress him across the border at Conwy this weekend.

“The group is too big, I know that,” said Pritchard.

“I will make it smaller, but I’m under no pressure from the club to do that straight away. “One or two did enough against Stalybridge to make me want to look at them again, which I will do in the next couple of matches.”

Pritchard, 37, wants his squad to be deeper this term after at times struggling to find an alternative for absentees last term.

He told the Northwich Guardian he is on the way to that already.

“A lot of the time I could not change what I wanted last year,” he said.

“That’s something I want to avoid this time around.

“I know there are difficult decisions to be made with regards to who should stay on, so I want to get it right.”

There is plenty to come from a group that earned promotion on the pitch back to the NPL’s top tier in April.

Defensive pair Paul Booth and Anthony Gardner, skipper Anthony Sheehan, on-trial midfielder Steve Connors and attacking tandem Chris Gahgan and Mike Moseley were all missing against Stalybridge.

“It’s frustrating that we’ve not had everybody available at the same time yet,” added Pritchard.

“That’s just the way it is at this time of year.

“The good thing is that it forces me to try different things in these games.”
