....friendly match in Whitby to help fundraise for the club at the Durham Miners Gala on Saturday, July 14th.

Club spokesperson Tori Gill, who will be with the team at Whitby on the day, explained: “We need a dozen or so fans who can’t make the match, or people who aren’t football fans but want to help the club, to hold `Alf Ramsey Knew My Grandfather` banners in Durham city centre and to give out some leaflets.”

The play, which is a comedy drama about the team of West Auckland miners who won the first world cup in 1909, will run at Darlington Civic theatre from Tuesday, July 24th to Friday 27th, and all profits from the show will go to Darlington 1883.

Ms Gill continued: “The Durham Miners Association has kindly donated banners to promote the show and we need some people to hold them and others give out leaflets.

“With more than 100,000 people expected to attend the gala it’s a fantastic opportunity of us to raise the profile of Darlington 1883 and to make money for the club by encouraging people to buy tickets for the show.”

She added: “We’ll need people from around 9am until 1pm.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Tori on 01325 354494.

`Alf Ramsey Knew My Grandfather` runs at the Darlington Civic Theatre from Tuesday, July 24th to Friday 27th. Tickets cost from £10 to £20. Box office: 01325 486555.
